Tenby Harbour Cam — Webcam Privacy Notice
Last updated: 30 October 2026
Who operates the webcam?
Tenby Harbour Cam provides a panoramic view of Tenby Harbour through tenbyharbourcam.com.
The data controller responsible for the webcam is DKCS Harris Property Ltd.
For privacy-related enquiries or requests concerning your personal data, contact dkcsharris@gmail.com.
Why we operate the webcam
The webcam allows residents, visitors and people interested in Tenby to observe the harbour, boats, tides, weather conditions and changing coastal scenery. We also produce daily timelapse videos.
The website includes advertising supporting the operation of the service. The camera’s purpose is to provide a scenic harbour view and associated tourism content, rather than to monitor particular residents or track individuals and their private activities.
The webcam is not an official maritime safety, navigation or emergency-warning service.
What images and information are captured?
The camera captures a wide-angle outdoor panoramic view. People, boats, vehicles and buildings may appear incidentally.
Where a person is identified or reasonably identifiable, directly or through other available information, the footage constitutes personal data. Vehicle registration plates and other contextual details may also constitute personal data where they relate to an identifiable person.
The camera is fixed. Digital enlargement and movement functions within the website player alter the viewer’s display of the existing image. They do not allow viewers to physically turn, tilt or adjust the camera’s lens.
Audio capture is disabled in the camera settings. The camera does not capture or transmit audio.
Our lawful basis for processing
Where we process personal data through the webcam, we rely on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR.
Our interests are providing a public harbour-view service, allowing viewers to observe harbour and weather conditions, publishing associated timelapse content and supporting the service through local advertising.
We are drafting a documented Legitimate Interests Assessment (LIA) to assess necessity, consider less intrusive alternatives and balance these interests against the rights and reasonable privacy expectations of people who may appear.
How we protect privacy
We review the camera’s field of view and consider privacy masking, cropping and other adjustments to reduce unnecessary capture of private areas.
The camera supports privacy masking, which has been tested successfully. We consider concerns about specific properties individually and assess appropriate masking or framing changes.
Distance and image quality may limit visible detail, but we do not assume that these factors make every person unidentifiable.
Privacy measures applied to future footage do not automatically alter recordings or snapshots already published. Concerns about existing material will be considered separately.
Where footage is available
The live video is publicly available through YouTube and embedded on our website. Webcam imagery is also made available through Windy and other webcam directories.
Public viewers may independently capture, copy or share images. We cannot guarantee that copies made independently by others can be retrieved or deleted by us.
Third-party platforms process information under their own privacy policies. Their processing may involve countries outside the United Kingdom.
Recordings and retention
Camera storage: The camera does not have an internal memory card installed.
Live-stream replays: We do not retain separate local copies of live-stream replays. YouTube’s handling and availability of live content depend on the channel’s settings and the platform’s practices.
Source timelapse photographs: The Raspberry Pi captures individual photographs to generate daily timelapses. These photographs are separate from continuous video recordings. Source photographs are automatically deleted during daily cleanup once they are more than seven days old, measured from their last modification. Under normal operation, they are retained for approximately seven to eight days to allow timelapse production and recovery from processing failures.
Local finished videos: Local timelapse videos with a recorded successful upload are automatically deleted during daily cleanup once more than 30 days have elapsed since their last modification or recorded upload, whichever is later. With daily cleanup, deletion normally occurs within the following 24 hours. Videos without an upload record are excluded from automatic deletion pending investigation. Upload markers are retained separately to help prevent duplicate uploads.
Published timelapses: Finished timelapse videos are published on YouTube and displayed on our website. Deletion of source photographs or local video files does not remove published videos. Accelerated playback does not itself anonymise people: viewers may pause individual frames.
Published timelapse retention: Published timelapses are retained while they remain useful for showing seasonal harbour, weather and coastal changes. We review them at least annually, considering their continuing value, whether individuals remain reasonably identifiable and any privacy concerns raised. Videos that no longer serve this purpose, or whose privacy impact cannot be adequately reduced, are removed or edited. Privacy concerns may trigger an earlier review.
We review retention against the purpose of the service and privacy concerns raised. Automatic deletion depends on the Raspberry Pi and scheduled cleanup operating successfully.
Your rights and concerns
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal data, request correction or erasure, restrict processing and object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exceptions.
To raise a concern or submit a request, email dkcsharris@gmail.com. Please identify the relevant location and, where possible, provide the date, time and a screenshot marking the area concerned. Avoid sending unnecessary personal information.
